How can you make a object that has been parented not rotate or move along the z axis. For example, a sky box that is smaller than the map (to occlude the map for performance reasons)
Select your skybox, select your intended parent, go into editmode (tab), select a vertex, hit ctrl-P.
Because vertices don’t have an orientation, only a position, your object won’t rotate, but will only do position.

Or you can use a parent constraint. That will give you more control.
None of the object panel constraints work in 2.49 BGE… I already tried that.
