Particle colors from UV map

Hey, anybody know if there are plans to implement static particle colors from UV maps?
I have my horse model UV mapped with a custom color map, and I want to give him fur, but I want the fur to inheirit his “skin” color.
Anybody know when we will be able to do this, or have suggestions for work-arounds?

It is announced for the next release, but I havn’t seen it yet in CVS (I’ve compiled mine yesterday).

The patch should be arriving in a few days.
