Particle Hair goes in wrong direction

Hi there,

I created a head (Blender 2.57.1) and wanted to add some particle hair.
So, as shown in several tutorials, I created a Vertex group and assign particle hairs
to it.

In each tutorial the hair is created in a 90 degrees angle from the parent face.
When I create the hair for my head, all hair just points to the front and to the back side.

It is impossible to comb the hair then.

What am I doing wrong?


Remove any doubles (W / remove doubles)
Recalculate face normals (Ctrl+N)
Ctrl+A to apply rotation, location and scale in edit mode
