Particle info node affecting remesh / explode color

I’m using remesh/explode to break a solid ring like object into pieces.

I wanted to access particle age, to effect the colors of the individual pieces over time, but the usual node setup for duplicated objects isn’t working.
Is it possible to do this with these modifiers? If not, any work around suggestions?

There is the Particle UV setting for the explode modifier. It gives you access to the particle age.

I’ve only used basic UVs, so I never thought it would be used this way.
