particle system / HAIR / looks and moves differently to the preview animation

Hey guys, need some advice on a blender render.
I have a project where Im using particle system / HAIR.
I have set it all up but when I render the project the animation render looks and moves differently to the preview animation within the 3D view. Its not as smooth … Can anyone help? My blend project is here:



Not exactly sure why this happens, but it seems to be caused by some weird scaling you have on the Plane.002 object:


  1. With that object selected, hit Ctrl-A > Scale in Object mode.
  2. The “ribbons” will now protrude from the wrong side. Now Tab into Edit mode, A to select all and Ctrl-F > Flip Normals.
  3. Tab out of Edit mode and rerun the animation from the beginning.

Render preview and render should now be consistent.
