You can choose a object visulization for particles and then choose a lamp. You can also make a second particle system with halos (point visualization) with the same settings and it will behave exactly the same way. Or you make a group with a sphere and a lamp and choose the group visulization for the partices and activate ‘dupli group’. But when you use only spheres, you will need to do some compositing.
