particles moving across emitter surface...

If this is possible it’ll be a godsend, but I figure I’ll try my luck. I have particles emitting from a plane. The particles are strands (not animated). What I want is for the particles to move across the plane–or perhaps scroll is a better word–in unison (all the same direction/speed) while the emitter remains static. When particles reach the edge of the plane, they die, and new particles are created on the other side of the plane, which start moving across the emitter as well. Does this make sense the way I’ve explained it, and if so, does anyone have any idea how I might achieve it?

Where is the “particle emitter type” setting? All I see is a “Type” setting under Emission panel with “Emitter” and “Hair” options. And I don’t understand how such an option would be correlated with the velocity of the particles anyway. Please clarify this and maybe I’ll be able to understand the rest of your post. Thx

Wait I understand now. I think you just meant set the particle starting velocity to 0. And I think I understand the rest of your post now. I’ll get back with the results

It is under the physics panel which only shows up if your emitter type is Emitter. Hair types do not have this panel.

It is just a way to scatter a bunch of particles across a surface. Similar results could be achieved with Dupliverts as well. With the particle system you can get more control over the randomness/size and count.
