PCI speeds, where do I put windows, swap data, material library and work files for best performance?

Hi everybody,

I have just purchased a second SSD for my XMG Apex 15 (64GB Ram, Ryzen 9 3950X, Geforce RTX 2070 Refresh). Now I have question regarding optimized usage.

There are two SSD slots:

Slot A )PCI-Express 3.0x4
Slot B)PCI-Express 2.0x4

I have 2 cards available which can go in either slot:
SSD number one is a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB
SSD number two is a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB

Due to the different PCI-Express speed and for the ultimate performance when rendering in cycles, where would you put which card and how would you locate the following:

  • Operating sytem (Windows 10 64Bit in my case)
  • Swap file
  • Material library
  • HDRI library
  • 3D Part library
  • Active working files and projects

Two more comments.
I usually store materials and parts in the active blend and do not reference to other file locations, as I do want to keep all together. Feels safer when wanting to open a backup years later.
There is also a 2TB HDD for local backups in the machine.

Most of my work is 360 imagery of very complex scenes with image sizes of 12000x6000 pixels which I render with E-cycles.

Historically I would separate one disk for the operating system and the other one for working files but due to the PCI speed difference that may not be the best setup.

Thanks for your suggestions,

Fran

Suggestions anyone? Please?
