Hey guys! I bet you haven’t seen any resources from me in a while 😉 well here’s a little project I was working on. I’ve been selling 3d renders on iStock and wanted a new setup for a studio. So I setup a virtual studio with pretty decent lighting (I’ve been studying lighting more in depth)

There’s a basic 3 point lighting setup with some hemisphere lighting, also there’s a studio floor with fading reflections for some extra spice 🙂 This is one of the beset setups I’ve done in a while, and I wanted to share it 😃 share the love! hehe.

Now, I will allow you to use this setup for renders for personal use and show in the forums, although I do not allow you to use this scene for a stock photo scene (That’d be like selling someone elses work!)

Once again, it’s a very basic setup, but has very a perfect lighting setup (not perfect as in an amazing lighting setup) perfect as in perfectly lit objects (unrealistic lighting) great for logos and mesh rendering (for showing progress on 3d models)

So without further ado here it is! I’ve attached the template blend file and a screenshot. I will post more of my personal renders from this template to show you what it’s does under various shaders (it works best with lambert and phong shaders)

Enjoy! And I’d love to see what your renders look like! So please post them here if you render using the template so I can see what needs improved on the lighting setup 🙂

I’ve attached a render of the setup without tweaking, and the tweaked setup with a simple RSS logo.

EDIT: added mesh render screen 🙂

This would be much better if this didn’t have blown-out colors in any places, and some value in all three channels so the power of the light tops out at white.

I achieved this studio light setep with gamma corrected 2.5 arealights, color management, my own homebrew compositor setup, and 10 minutes, what was your method exactly? (and I assume yours was in 2.49)

Yes, I used 2.49 (didn’t feel like using 2.5) ugh… as I stated it’s very basic, haha, you can download and try it out. I would’ve used composite nodes, but I saw no need for them. I don’t care if no ones like it, I’m using it as my studio 🙂 and I thought I’d post it here. hehe.

That’s fine, but to eke out maximum realism when it comes to lighting, it is indeed recommended to use a compositor setup, like mine which utilizes multiple passes to make a multiply map to subtract light where needed. It’s basically a more realistic method to use AO with rather than just plain adding AO lighting to the scene.

Right, I understand how to use nodes, I just didn’t see the need for what I personally was rendering…

Well it looks like you just used the standard default settings for each light so you your contribution was the number and their positions, and you want to permit where and how users can and cannot use the default lights ? Get back down to the real world.
