It does look very nice, the characters you have are well done and the in game screens look quite interesting. I think if you were to make this a full blown game you’d have to make something in story mode to keep peoples attention like character unlocking, skils, stats, weapons or moves to be able to unlock ect. I know for sure that if there wasn’t a great story line or things to play for it wouldn’t be an attention grabber for long. But so far I think you are making something very nice, well done!

edit: Have you animated each part seperately (which is why you’ve modeled everything sepereately) or have you used armatures on one whole mesh?

The characters are made from multiple parts (arms, hands, legs, head, eyes, etc.), which are joined in one mesh. I have done it, because characters moves look smoother - there is no squeezing and so. I have seen it on many games on PlayStation.
I dont want to make a professional game, but something that it playable on most PC. The characters are low-poly and their moves look almost everytime good. I know, that every part of body is seen, but you will not notice it during a gameplay (and I think, that it looks cool).
The Battle system is done. After I make some moves for every game character (that is very problematic part of developing for me :() I post a demo. I have already done some battle music.
After demo release I will make AI for each character, arenas to Story mode and I will make some story sequences between arenas.
Primary target for me is to do some TacticalBattleSystem templates for different purposes.
I have already added two built-in options: ModelViewer (which showes you game character models) and SoundTest (which is standart player of game music).

Hi, guys. Thanks for your thoughts about arena. I was trying some textured grass and other objects like ruins and trees, but it slows down the fps rate. I think I will change the arena concept completely, make arena meshes lowpoly and do some detailed textures. Right now i am doing CG models of game characters for game intro and other movie sequences (was thinking if ashid has done some modification of his Video Texture plugin to autoconfigure system codecs?).
Anyway, I was thinking about complete game concept:
Story
Location: Earth; 29th century.
Plot: After big world war during first half of 3rd millenium the world was devasted and ruined. The end come with last nuclear attack, which has been launched at several Earth locations. The Earth was contaminated by radiation and most species have died. Only surviving people lived in city domes protected from radiation. The city domes contains big hydroponics and farms - water is chemically cleared.
During the centuries air has cleared and outside vegetation has refreshed. However, due the radiation the remaining plants and animals have mutated into dangerous hybrids. The world is no more in the hands of a mankind. Remaining human city domes are surrounded by jungle with dangerous mutants. Very small amount of radiation gets in city domes too - people were exposed to it whole centuries. Due this radiation some people born with supernatural powers called magick.
In this world, there is one big industry corporation called WR (The World Regeneration), which supplies people with food, clear water, clothing, technology, etc. It contains most of city domes in former Europe. The WR has own army of android soldiers called Protectors of the Mankind. These soldiers have perfect AI and immediately respond to orders from their human captains. They are used as police in city domes of WR and as wares caravan escorts in jungle enviroment.
The WR is supporting the richest people mainly, the others get a small amount of rations and must work hard on farms and industrial factories to pay for it. Most people of city domes live in slums, which are at he bottom of the city dome. The richest elite live at the top of city dome, so they have the most amount of sunlight, which is striking through reinforced glass material of the dome (that is why they have darker skin then others).
The WR is doing some secret experiments with animals and people. Using cybernetic enhancements, magick and biomechanical components, they creates mutants. WR is testing these hybrids in city dome slums and the most powerful ones serve WR government as special forces.
As you can see, there is no freedom in this world. The Rebellion began !!!
Here is the first enemy of WR:
Grey Wolf is a member of city dome militia. These people are trained by WR and are hired by small poor city domes as police troops or guards.
His Katana Sword is engraved with German magical rune symbols, that grants him supreme fighting abilities.
Armour is made from polymetallic alloy. Designed for low weight, high endurance and smooth movement.
Grey Wolf´s fighting style is modified form of ancient Europe Sword&Shield technique, which specializes on quick slash striking, shield hitting and quick variance between attack and defense stance.
He is using Nanotechnology implantants, so he has some advantages on battlefield.

so if it takes place in the 29th century, why do they have only swords?
Projectile weapons are not used in a fair battle (man-to-man). During a duel the combatants should show their skills, power and tactical abilities - so the nonshooting weapons are good way to go.
The guns are used in jungles against beasts and (in duel) by people without a pride.
Anyway, turn-based fighting game, where the combatants have shooting weapons … who would play it. It would be one round fights — hit or miss ;).
Game characters have mainly swords (because I think its most suitable weapon for dueling), but if I add some hidden characters, I can give them daggers, hammers, monoatomical wires, Naginatas, flamethrowing armbands, laser eye headgear, etc. The game is not fully designed, you have seen only first combatant :).
Anyway, there will be at least one fighter using magick.
Very nice, although I noticed some minor syntax errors in your story, but thats okay, I do suggest you have someone that writes natively english to go over it and correct any small errors (such as: borned is born) to add to the professionalism, but that is up to you. I would be happy to do so if you so desire.
I REALLY like that model for the fighter, very clean, smooth and fluid looking. Looks like it will be at least 30 minutes of fun for me ( I have a short attention span, so this is good )

wouldnt a melee weapon be just about the same? i mean if i clubbed you in the head with a sledge hammer or stabbed you then your probably going to go down with one blow just like if i was to shoot you. (i was jst using you as an example, i dont actually intend to make a violent threat:p)
the whole thing seems sort of anime to me, why dont you incorperate both melee weapons and firearms instead?

NJROTC: I agree with you. The damage can be similar, but I dont like the feeling of killing someone from distance (you know :)). In my game I dont want players to use this cowardly attack. And I still think, that firearms are not suitable for this type of game. Maybe I will add some firearms as a special attack of some negative-based fighters.
But in meantime I will do some HD models and finish the demo.
Hey, guys. Here is next update. Behold next rebel.
Blitz is a specimen on escape. He was a son of a farmer until he was kidnapped by WR and moved to secret lab in jungle fortress. For long years he has been tested and his body was modificated. His limbs were reinforced by cybernetic implantants, so he has faster movement and greater power. His palms and foots were modified and some magnetic field enhancements added. He can do some electric punches and kicks now (electronics is feed from battery, which must be periodically recherged).
He was 18 years, when he has got enough power to overcome all security and ran away. After that, only thing in his mind is vengeance.
His only weapons are metal gloves. Big hat on his head is also metal reinforced and he is using it as a shield (it is also useful as an umbrella - design copied from old japanese movies of director Akira Kurosawa).
Fighting style is based on quick destructive impacts and quick recovery. Blitz is using his electric punches only in strategic moments to neutralize opponent and quickly end a battle.
I am now working on code optimisation (by code I mean only python scripts) — right now I got about 4-5 FPS speedup. I have reworked player select screen (another speedup) and add new option “Settings”, where you can choose language or change character select screen. I also converted all wav files to ogg format and remade all music system to pygame (which is muuuuuuuch better than standart in Blender).
There is english and czech language. And two player select screens: Type 1 is old one displaying realtime game characters; in Type 2 are the models changed by 2D sprites, it loads much faster. The settings is automatically saved, so next time you will play, it will be configured.
The czech language is not yet implemented in all game sections. Anyway, thanks ashid for your Bitmap Font creator — it would be impossible to do it without your plugin ;).
Real-time projected shadows will be not present in the game, because I am not able to modify the game to get it working properly (and the FPS rate will be faster too).
I am also working on other character HD models and modelling new “Slums Arena” which will be fully textured and probably exchange the old Practice Arena (which is for long time critized ;)).

Do you keep the turn system battle or are you switching for a realtime battle using ray sensor or distance to ?
In this game will be turn-based battle system (much like in Final Fantasy X). I will try make realtime battle system in my next game project. Current battle system is almost complete (I need to do only AI programming and some minor stuff), so I dont want to change.

I dont suggest you be the one that writes this for him as you’ve only fixed his word usage error but neglected the syntax error you brought up altogether. For the example of that…reread his story with your example (such as: borned is born). In its present state its still incorrect. Any editor griping over syntax would not have fixed a word that was being used incorreclty. He would have fixed the syntax…thus using the correct word, and killing 2 birds with one stone. It should be were born or are born. Depending on, of course, if people are still born with magick or not.
To rieko- if your really on the look out for a writer/editor. Get a writer/editor. Not an artist that can moonlight as one. They really are 2 completely different feilds that share very little in common. For example , somone that creates dramatic pieces of artwork with relative ease may have problems writting that script that not only catches your attention, but keeps it. And vice versa.
When it comes down to it though, in the end the only person that needs to be able to read this plot is him. Unless he’s going to do one of those scrolling backstory type things at the beginning of the game. As long as he can convey his desired emotion/concern/idea with the rest of his team…this plot doesn’t even need to be in engilish (again…unless he’s doing one of those backsotry things).
Thanks for your thoughts HouseArrest. I am actually not searching for any writer or editor. I know, that my english is not proper, but I want to do all the work by myself and I will learn english in near future. I am not planning to add a big amount of dialogues and story narrations to the game. I will concentrate on expressions scenes and some background music (which I am making for myself ;)).
I think, that if I the music, CG art, movie sequences and the game concept itself will be made by one man, game atmosphere will be at most identical with author´s concepts.
Anyway, I have already edited some english syntax errors in Story above in this thread, so please dont be so angry at spiffyandy :).
Bleh, House, I wasn’t trying to correct everything there, but the borned thing stuck out, however, if I were to actually go through the script, I would have fixed the other syntax. I was low on time, and wanted to make a quick post before I left, not go back and read his script and fix it right then. Also, I was just making ONE example. Either way, kudos to Reiko for doing it on his own. Rock on!
I have made another updates. I was searching through the forum to find some speedup hints and other things, that helped me improve game speed and size (since November I have lower it down about 17 MB). Now the game with all features, music and textures has about 13 MB in RAR format.
I am modeling new arena in HD, so I will bake textures and use it later in lowpoly version in game. I will post some screenshots later (I hope I can make it).
Anyway, here is another fighter.
Rhoemer is lonely bounty hunter. His work was his life, until he met Grey Wolf. They have become good friends and when the time came he joined the Rebels too.
Rhoemer was born in Ukraine in former East Europe. People in this land have no city domes, they have hidden in deep caves, and build giant underground cities. Still they have lived exposed to radiation for decades. Their bodies have build small genetic protection against it. They are dying in early ages. Rheomer was one of many children, who was born with special abilities. His special is an ability to move things only by power of his mind, telekinesis. He and other children have escaped to west after big earthquake in his 13 years. After that they have lived in wild forest somewhere in former Central Europe and they have given a rise to A+ Agency, which is specializing on solving unparticular tasks – so they all became bounty hunters.
His weapon is really hard edged :); this great sword is designed for slashing attacks only. It is very heavy, so he must use his special ability in battle.
Rhoemer is using telekinesis in many ways. During a battle he manipulates the sword faster than normal human is able. He can also do some mind attack to destabilise an opponent (so he is like some Jedi knight). However by using the telekinesis his mental stamina is consumed and he can be totally worn-out soon.
The little box on his belt is Mind Multiplier, which is … multipliyng his mind abilities. He is using it in defence mode by casting a physical barrier around his body, which will reflects all physical attacks.
He uses mainly strong vertical or horizontal attacks, strenghtened by his mind powers. This attacks can be very quick and destructive, but after some time his mind gets tired.
In next weeks I want to model other characters and the arena, so I can make a trailer.
