I figured i would give you peeps a heads up for my favorite image editing software.
PhotoFiltre is da bomb!
No really, i love its simplicity, its almost like Paint, except it has soft brushes, and a few other features. Now i know lots of people feel deprived from nifty features you get from payware, but thats more with an eye onto the professionals.
I worked with Photoshop at home, and was taught the program at school, but to me its convoluted with options you can actually do manually. For example the Emboss filter, wich is nothing more then copying the image, turning it into a negative, paste it back onto the image with 50% transparancy, and shifting image a few pixels around to get some funky looking edges.
I also think a more basic image editor gives you a better understanding of how to achieve certain effects, because you do not use the implented shortcuts.
So check out this link, pick your preffered version. Me personally i prefer the free standalone version without the use of layers.
I know, i’m a digital caveman, but give it a try either way, and dont forget to share you experiences and opinions too, wich will help others make up their minds as well.
Sorry, Photofiltre is just far too primitive and limited for me - why not just use Krita instead? Krita has a pretty simple interface as well. Or MyPaint, if you need a more basic paint app.
There is basic, and then there is too basic, you know. And why re-invent the wheel? And working without layers - that really is asking for too much.
Anyway, to each his/her own! I’ll stick with Photoline and Krita.
Why not use Krita instead? Cause i can get around with the bare basics, its that simple. I’ve never felt limited in what i wanted to do. The program does what it says it does, and in the end your only limited by your own creativity.
Some old work of mine, i designed the powerbars, and remade the stage into a highres version, the characters belong to someone else. This was done for the Mugen engine where i mainly did stage creation.
I never stated the work you create would be primitive - I think Photofiltre is (extremely) bare-bones, and of course you can create great artwork in any program. Heck, you only need paper and pencil Limitations can be your best friend, indeed.
Once I met a developer who insisted on using notepad on Windows only for all his coding. If Photofiltre is all YOU need, then more power to you!
