I’m trying to achieve realistic twill webbing for straps. I tried using a texture and threw it into materialize. I want to make close ups but the texture lacks quality. Can’t really find textures that really match.
What would be your approach to get it realistic? Try to get a macro shot of the texture or build it procedural?
Thanks for your
reply. I looked through all the links and non of them really look like the sample I have nor I can change them in a way. It’s just some kind of fabric material
The basic pattern of the fiber may be horizontal or oblique, depending on the weaving method, even if it is the same.
Find and watch lectures to learn how to adjust these things, and produce the results you want. It doesn’t offer a perfect solution.
If not, you need to find and use PBR material image.
The video also shows how to create patterns for fibers.
By referring to these images, you need to change the fiber pattern using nodes to create fibers with the desired pattern.
Lance Phan’s “Procedural Weaver” (4 part series, quite complex) is about the most flexible twill generator I’ve seen to date:
I setup mine, and works as intended. If you chose to buy it instead, you get more complex features like accounting up/down correctly for the backside. Even if the most flexible, there are some twill patterns that cannot be recreated, like satin weave. It also outputs masks that could be useful, as in your case you might want to vary anisotropic rotation to obtain that effect.
