Physics editing and baking query

I am using a rigid body physics simulation to set up a scene. The simulation falls into two parts: in the first part, there are many small objects which fall into a container; then in the second part, the container is knocked over so the small objects spill out. After much tweaking, the first part runs nicely and I am now adjusting the second part.

My query is this: having set up the first part, is it necessary to re-bake it in order to test adjustments in the second section? Basically, frames 1 to 230 are sorted, and only frames 231 on are going to change as a result of any adjustments. It is very frustrating to have to run the full simulation to see the effects of an edit almost 3/4 of the way through.
