Picture problems

I am purposefully accessing the posts made by people who have Blender problems that have not been resolved for some time, hoping to “get the ball rolling” for them.

It helps me get back into a tech support mentality, (research and discipline), and hopefully I learn something and they solve their problem.

I am already limited because at present I have to use a community library computer, so Blender is not available at my elbow, and download / upload is not always possible.

The problem I have, is that a number of post show a box with a red “X” in the center, or just a white screen where the picture should be.

Why does this happen?

I realise some people have used an external link and this will not show in the post.
Also it could be an internet blocker my end.

If I knew it was not a problem my end, then I could ask the poster, to re-submit the image.

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Regard to all.

Hi Cig,

Could you upload or e-mail a screen shot on what you are seeing? Are you able to confirm how this may look on a different machine outside of the Library?

Appreciate letting me know and look forward to talking more.

The red X usually occurs when the image can’t be uploaded.

There can be several reasons for it:

  • host not found
  • host blocked (by firewall, proxy, spam filter)
  • image blocked (by spam filter, ad filter, antivirus, privacy protector)

Together with the screen shoot the html source code would be nice.

To Wesburke or Monster

I have just answered a problem I posted on another issue.

I was having trouble locating my new post entries under the “New Posts” button, in the header bar, (they were missing).

The last update I added to this thread did not show in the New Posts section.
This was because I had edited an existing post to try and keep my input in one tidy block, (check previous post above for new information).

Could you please confirm that the site does or does not recognise EDITING as a new post.
If the answer is no, I’ll make new posts per update, or the danger is the updates will be missed.

Thanks

Cig.

Hi Cig,

The site will not recognize edits as a new post. I also looked at the threads you mentioned. The first http://blenderartists.org/forum/show...red-into-a-cup has an embedded video player from youtube.com. Maybe there are some scripts blocking streaming of videos on your local?

What is affected the first one, could very well be affecting the images as well. If you are unable to post .jpg (screen shot) here feel free to e-mail us direct at support@cgcookie.com so we can take a look

Look forward to talking more.

Hi Wesburke

The network I am on supports ELEVEN community libraries, so download / upload, can be painfully slow, depending on the traffic.
It’s taken an hour before, to download 15 megs of data, (Blender 2.48a as far as I can remember), and then crashed just before the conclusion.
No “pick up from where you left off” availability.

Thought as much, otherwise the New Post section would be awash with updates just because people corrected typo errors, LOL.

We are not authorised to access Youtube.com, so that explains why the “red-into-cup” thread is blocked. There is probably a header reference within the player, that the network filter picked up.

I actually had to complain that BlenderArtists had been blocked, (I told them this is a PROFESSIONAL site for C.G. artists; which it IS), and BlenderArtists and Blender.org, advertise work placements.

I’ll try some tests, to see what formats can be up/down loaded, (if at all). If not, I’ll “lift” some screenshots, to a memory stick and pass them to you on an external machine.

Thanks Wesburke

My best regards to you and the team.

Hi Wesburke.

This is not on the same topic, but I wanted to make sure you saw this post.

I was in the search engine and my network reported that the site uses a third party caching application, (cannot remember the application name at present). The third party app’ seems to be failing to reliably store it’s cache data. “the cache file is missing or unavailable: the site is down, or under maintenance”. " If you know the site is active, you could try a live ******".

Sorry; the asterix means I cannot remember the words used.

Could explain all the strange responses from the search engine. “Nothing found”, “you have logged in since the last page was displayed, back page and refresh…”

It could also explain why login is suddenly lost?

Just thought I’d let you know.

Thanks.

Cig.

SORRY. I was testing whether I could pass complete network reports into BlenderArtists, in view of trapping the caching error reports, when they occur. Nothing showed up on the screen until after I had clicked “Post Quick Reply”.
