I set myself up with some “simple” subjects to model, to learn and become better at Blender. A coffee cup, a book, all objects that are in my house and I can thus study for shape, lighting, texture, etc.
This book setup just has an environment texture for lighting, I’m thinking of setting up some area lights in a studio setup. I’ve added some bent pages for realism. And a bump map for the illusion of hundreds of pages
To me, what your modeling is now overlooking is that the cover of a book is a distinct thing from its stack of pages. Likewise the entire binding of the book.
Of course: “everything depends on the actual needs of the show.” Maybe these fine distinctions won’t actually matter.
