pinning cloth to free objects


I’m trying to simulate the behavior of a cloth object that’s being propped up by a few poles, the difficulty I’m having is that I cant seem to figure out how to make the poles dependent on the cloth, so that the whole thing can fall on a plane for the final animation.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hey Archinaut - I took a quick look, and if you don’t pin the points, but rather parent them to the posts it should do what you want (if I understand correctly), After un-pinning, try the following:

  1. Select a pole, then SHIFT-click to select the cloth object
  2. Press tab to go to edit mode, selected the vertex at one end of the pole (only one)
  3. CTRL-p to add vertex parent.
  4. Repeat to select vert at other end
  5. Repeat for other poles

a better way would be to select a pole, then select the cloth, go edit mode, then select the verts that are pinned, and you want to attach to that pole, and press ctrl-h and select hook to selected boject
