I am creating a Pirate Ship Game… (still need to think of a title more creative than “Pirates of the Pirate Isles” ;)) still got some work to do on it yet, but here’s what I have so far.
Sail between far flung ports destroying enemy vessels, trading goods and of course amassing piles of Gold!
Anyway, take a look at the screenshots, download the file and have a go! I’d love to hear what you all think of it so far!
Looks like a good start, but you should set your land mesh to Smooth rendering mode. (Select the land mesh, press F9 to open Edit Buttons, press Set Smooth button)
The game looks very cool. I forgot the name of the commercial game that this one is apparently modeled after, but it was surprisingly fun. Good luck!, can’t wait to see more of it finished!
Hey, thanks everyone for your comments! I really appreciate them!
I set the Islands to smooth - that really helped, they look a lot better - thanks for that.
The slow down when another ship appears is what I am working on fixing now before I do any more development. It’s a pain in the butt trying to figure out how to make it go quicker… I think my python is fairly ugly looking so I’ll see if I can streamline it somehow… (if anyone can see how I’d love to hear (but it’s probably to ugly to make sense of…))
Not sure what the deal is with the scrolling - last I checked it worked for me… will look into it - thanks
I haven’t done any death scene yet, so infinite loop of watching yourself sink is about it… (just to let you see your failure over and over again )
I had a quick look at the screenshots of Voyage Century - looks pretty cool!
I dunno what game you’re thinking of S_Cross, I think I was inspired by a really old ssi game called “Spelljammer” (1992 or something) but you fly a ship in outer space in that one - That was a pretty fun game, but it had an ugly interface and was full of bugs.
lol, I dont know if this is fixable or not, but while my computer froze I he;d down left arrow key, and when it unfroze my ship collided at full speed into the island sending it rocketing through the air, it took about 20 seconds to come down. lol
Spelljammer the paper game was absolutly amazing!!! I would love to make something liek that…
Anyone remember how the hull points worked in that?? And tonnage? And air supply… must look it up…
Great pirate game BTW
Peace

Lokidg, Sure it’s possible! You might not be able to get full Bullet physics pumping away while you’re at it, But it can happen!
If you want to be really lazy you could make the world move instead of the ship, but that would limit you to only one ship. A simple python script so the ship keeps orientation and touches the surface wouldn’t be that hard.
