Planet Lineup

BIG file, 300K in size, you will need to scroll over to view all the planets. (there are four of them)

I’m enjoying this alot, more on the way for certain.
pure blender renders, no external stuff done to them.
Aside from the earth map, all textures are my own

hey man those are cool what are they for

for? well…nothing.

Earth will eventually be released, I’m still tweeking it though, and also the subject of a tutorial.

the others? just learning…

nice… I love doing stuff like that for fun too.

Nice, I like the feel of the fantasy planets and the haze of the atmospheres. The only thing that troubles me is the texture map on Earth - Africa is at most half that size, and I don’t see Europe or Antarctica.

look again, you can see italy.

its the proper size BTW, just the angle that make africa seem larger.
(Its the NASA maps)

Looks totally nice, man.

How did you make this atmosphere? It looks fantastic. Is it just another sphere?

Cool, but I dont see why they are done in Blender. You could easily do that in Photoshop.

ray_theway is right, africa is too large. I looks a little stretched out verticaly anyway.

And, could you make them rotate and/or have ships fly around them, in photoshop. No, that’s why in blender. (well, maybe if you had some serious amount of time on your hands and did it all frame by frame)

Yea, the atmosphere is another sphere, three used…
Land, Clouds, and atmosphere. Works well doesn’t it?

Don’t worry, tutorial IS in the works.

dunno why africa is so large, its the Nasa maps sphere mapped.

It’s awsome.
Just one crit: I can’t see my home. Next time could you please target Belgium. Thanx
-IS-

Check the lens setting on your camera. Play with setting it higher (like around 50).

i dunno africa is huge and but i guess it doesnt strech from pole to pole

its not streching from pole to pole, the mapping is correct. (I’ve checked, knew it was…but dunno)

Playing with camera lens now

They are quite good. But how come that all the planets have the same cloud texture?

The first and last one have the cloud texture rotated a bit, but one can notice they are still the same.

'cause I’m lazy, have only one high res cloud texture, and didn’t bother to rotate it for the other pictures.
