Main character

The way I see it, Legos are really ideal for an RPG sorta deal:
-customizable characters: there are already hundreds of different torsos, legs, heads, hats, props, tools, and weapons made by LEGO. In a lego game, it only makes sense that the player get access to these and get to make their own character (plus, there’s so much room for unlockables and so on)
-grid system: legos are already based on integer space- each nub/bump/thingy is one unit of space, so grid based gameplay, as seen in pretty much every 2d RPG, is a natural choice.
-player-created content: I figure if there’s no level designer in a lego game, it can’t really be a lego game, can it? They’re legos, for crying out loud! (bonus points if building is worked into the gameplay)
not to shoot down your idea, but I don’t really think a 2d game really suits legos
(can you tell I’m one of those kids who grew up on legos?)
Please be aware that the name “LEGO” is a trademark. You can use it in conversation of course, but you cannot use the word LEGO (or any variation of capitalization or punctuation of that name) in your game (in the title or otherwise). There are a lot of generic snap together plastic building blocks, though, so I don’t see a problem with a game featuring snap together plastic building blocks and associated characters. Just remember that the moderation team is required to delete threads if projects violate trademarks.
Edit: Darth Vader and Yoda are also trademarks, and you should probably be careful about the term “lightsaber.”
Just try flipping some normals. The barrel and stuff needs to stay not smooth. But the hat and his head needs smoothed. If you have weird black lines first hit “w” then remove doubles. If that didn’t do nothing then hit Shift+ctrl+n to recalculate normals.
I know that lego has made a number of 3d applications for building and designing sets and models. Is it at all possible to import any of the models from those apps? I am not very familiar with python, but I am sure it will require a script. If you could manage to do this it would give you a very complete library of models to use…
