playback error in 2.44

hey guys, anyone else having trouble playing back image sequences in 2.44? For me it’s freezing on the second frame, and just goes black, and I get this error in the console:

It’s been reported to the bugtracker. See http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=96314.
Don’t you love the cryptic, useless error message.

Ah cool then, I’ll stick with avi for now, I noticed that works, but, yeah, I am one of those guys who is ‘PY-challenged’, so I have no clue what that means. Thanks.

No, not on Linux or Windoze. If you’re trying to use the flipbook, select a sequence in an image node, set it to Image Sequence, plug in the # of frames, out put to viewer node, Open uv/image window and select viewer node, press N for properties, set # of frames on Frames field of properties window (yeah, I know it’s redundant, but Blender won’t play 'em back otherwise), set your timeline to have the same # of frames as the image sequence, press record, wait while all frames cache into memory, let continue to play thru once after all frames have cached, then press ESC to stop playback. Same hotkeys that apply to playing and advancing the timeline apply here once frames are cached.
If you want to paint on frames then you have to save 'em one at a time B4 advancing to the next and you have to manually number the sequence. If you know how to do it otherwise please let me know cuz I haven’t been able to figure it out yet. Bummer!!!
I just tested this on windoze and it works flawlessly.

Edit:
I had just moved over to my windoze partition to see if the image painting in sequences was any better here when I saw your post. This technique works for codecs on both platforms also.
