I am working with large point cloud imported file (.ply) which I am trying to remodel by using shrink wrap modifier.
Its huge building that has 16 million verts.
I created simple plane and subdivided it bunch of times for the wall.
When I try and use the shrink wrap with ply as the target mesh nothing happens.
No matter what wrap method I try.
Is this blender limitation and does it mean I have to use something like cloud compare to compute mesh and import this as fbx into blender?
That’s a looooooottt of points… and why want to shrinkwrap on this large one ??? Maybe decimate/remesh a little bit and use this ? I tried a subdivided, noise deformed and sharp remeshed Suzanne (to have some tries):
Yes just 32K verts but subdividing it two times gives 2 million…and i can’t see the surface any more… ) just points all over (and my 8GB RAM computer ge’s sslllooowww).
The point cloud points have distance between each other on average 0.1 - 0.2 cm.
Its really dense but I guess there is limitation with shrinkwrap modifier.
I tried subdividing my plane huge amount of times and it did nothing couldn’t wrap around point cloud mesh just ran out of computer ram and crashed blender even with 32 gb of ram.
No i meant: the shrinkwrap modifier is for real geometry. Not for point clouds. And 16 million vertices means 16 million times 3 times (for x,y,z) a 32-bit float (=4 bytes) equals to 192GB data … so the limitation is on the 32GB of RAM hardware side…
