I’m trying to model and light several scenes using point light sources. I need the light to be visible inside the transparent object (e.g. a glass bulb or plastic casing), to illuminate the scene outside the object and to cast shadows.
When I’m working with spotlights set to buffer shadows I get all three without difficulty. When I’m working with point sources I don’t have the option of buffer shadows just raytraced shadows - and even though my casing is both transparent and translucent, the rays don’t seem to pass through it so the scene isn’t lit at all. If I turn off shadows then the scene is lit as required but obviously without shadows. I’ve tried to create my lighting set-up using multiple spots pointing in different directions but it’s not satisfactory there are too many edges between beams and there’s also a hit on the render time.
Can’t help but feel I’m missing something - any help much appreciated. Thanks!
