Poly / mesh reducer for 2.6?

I’ve looked around the program and can’t find this script, is it even included? Or if it’s not, is it available?

Thanks

No, only the decimate modifier

Decimate blows, which version of blender should I use if I want poly reduce?

2.49b was the last version to have the poly reducer script.
Extremely usefull to make quickly lods for models, hopefully it will return one day in future versions.

Another possiblity would be to use Meshlab. Export the desired object in .obj or .ply format, import it in Meshlab and use one of the many filters.

I’d recommend this one: Filters --> Remeshing, simplification and reconstruction --> Quadric Edge Collapse Decimation.

Hope that helps.

hint: Don’t be scared by all the options when the filter-dialog pops up. If you activate the “help” button, it shows you how the different parameters effect the final result.

Thank you very much, i never noticed this decimation filter that preserve the UV map in Meshlab.
And after trying it , it’s excellent.

Is the somewhere a tuturial how to port scripts from 2.49 to 2.6 ?
Or is this impossible?

New decimate indeed does not suck. Very cool functionality.

Oh  thank you very much for this information - I will need to check out the newest version (using 2.60 atm).

Great news!!
