I am struggling in figuring out how to make realistic hair and clothing for games. I have been playing around with the cloth modifier in blender and designing different types of clothes but all of it looks limp and fake. Armour has a similar struggle but I don’t even know where to start for that.
Polygon hair is even more difficult. I play around with gimp and polygon nodes but the hair is always to dense and I cannot find a way to get it to paint onto the scalp so I can style in without adding each individual piece one by one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
I should mention that I am a junior in highschool and budget is extremelly low.
A popular way to build game hair is to first rough in the overall shape with any sculpting tool you like > then lay rough strips using Zbrush Fibermesh and/or Insert Multi Mesh brush > and finally, tweak by hand. As explained here :
As for clothing, the current trend is to build high res simulated garments in Marvelous Designer and touch up the result in a sculpting program for added details. And then of course baking the results to a lowpoly with normalmaps (but that goes without saying).
In this case Zbrush is really just an alternative tool to lay down hair strips/cards - that’s all doable natively in Blender without trouble.
As for clothing, you can very well sculpt it the regular way (without simulation), using a combination of Dyntopo and regular sculpting.
