Portal scene

Hi, guys. What do you think about this scene? I wanted to create the one where my friend stands opposite to the torn wall:

Here is the photo of him:

And the real scene:

Also the scene where he jumps into this portal will be captured from the floor:

I tried to make it as realistic as I could but still think that smth escapes my attention.

To get full realism, you will need to make the 3D elements look like they were captured by the same camera as the live action elements. Some work in the compositing stage is going to be needed for this.

This means matching the film grain, compression artifacts, lens distortion and dispersion if there is any. If the camera has imperfect black or white values or a specific amount of saturation in the colors, this also needs to be matched.

The very bright portal would probably cause some bloom, which would need to show up in front of the real actor, creating some light wrap.

Now, for the 3D elements.

The torn wall simulation could probably use more resolution, I see the polygons a bit too easily in my opinion. But that needs to be tried to come to a conclusion, maybe it would behave differently and that’s not suitable.

Something else that could be useful to try is to add a solidify modifier after the simulation to give the wall a little bit of thickness. Even if it barely has any thickness, having little borders that catch light could help with realism.

Thank you for the feedback. I tried to take into account everything and created smth like this.

That’s neat! The 3D elements looks well integrated with the live action.

Now, the only problem I see is the imperfect green screen that’s flickering, this might need some manual masking in some spots for a good result. Was this filmed in darkness like the screenshot above? That makes green screen more difficult to work with.

Yeah, it actually was taken in darkness, but it’s just a probe, so in the future we’ll try to lighten greenscreen evenly. Thx for reply
