i have started in a new project ( portrait )

for ex .

background image or not
any suggestions in lighting

looks good… much better than i can do 
yes you should put a BG image… or at least change the color from that pukey blue color…
the shirt looks kinda odd at the neck…
i would make it a little darker with some darker shadows…
thats really good tho
