Used Blender, Sculptris (for bump map) and GIMP (textures and compositing).
I tried a different workflow on this piece which worked really well for me. I rendered out several separate image (diffuse, specular, occlusion, etc.) and did all the compositing in GIMP. The most useful part of this setup was doing the hair, rendered each section of hair as a separate image against transparency (and masked by the head) then overlayed in GIMP. This way I could tweak the hair and see the result on the full quality image without having to re-render each time or do test renders of lower quality. Also, I could effectively paint out areas of specularity on the image rather than constantly tweaking the specular map.
@3pointEdit, I see your point a/b the eyes. The shading on the closer eye doesn’t show up the concave shape of the iris like it does in the further one. Eyes have always been kinda hit or miss for me.
nice job, I like it. Specialy the skin, hair and beard. Aldough, like 3pointEdit said, something is wrong with the eyes. Maybe they are to flat, or iris is to small. But still, very good.
