Poser model import

Hi there Blenderers,
Any body know of a good script for importing Poser models into Blender ?, i have bad problems with .DXF files, i can`t smooth them and they loose faces when Decimated.
Do Wavefront .OBJ files work or maybe 3DMF or 3D Studio and is there a script?
Thanks for any help, see ya.

Did you do a RemDoubles after the DXF import?
Import Export Suite: https://blenderartists.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6557 (Maybe a newer version exists, just do a serach on the forum)

No, i`ll try it, thanks, sorry about the double posting, see ya.

Remove doubles works OK with DXF but i can`t seem to get the mesh to decimate, i get a " No Manifold Mesh " message.

Any idea what that means?

A manifold mesh is AFAIK a totally closed seamless mesh. The decimate function requires this.

Hope this helps,

Neil.

Try to decimate these two meshes. One is closed, the other not:

There is a problem with decimator when a segment (at least) belongs to more than 2 faces. S

So, you can find here :

a script to draw all these segments in a new mesh.

Then:
1/ copy the rot/size/loc of the original object to the new one.
2/ in the original mesh, select the faces surrounded by the drawind and make a pkey for separate.

Caution: it can long to get the result and the faces group can be very small.

Yes , i sorted my problem by converting the Poser.DXF ungrouped mesh to .OBJ in Crossroads utility, the decimate works fine now , thanks.

All Poser meshes are OBJ’s. Instead of exporting from poser to DXF’s, why not just use the Poser mesh as is. Just navigate the Poser folders and you will find the OBJ’s there, no need for any conversion utilities.

Now for the armatures :-?

I`ll try that thanks,

DXF converted to VRML 2 decimates OK too.
