Possible to bake projected textures for VFX?

I’m starting to research some VFX work I have coming up involving destroying a city. I will need to be able to destroy some buildings in particular that we shot last summer. Is there a way to project the textures onto CG buildings and “bake” them so that even as the building comes apart, the projected textures remain on the larger chunks of debris? I’ve seen building destruction tutorials, but they all involve completely CG buildings rather than one that was shot as part of a plate.

two ways

  1. uv project modifier -> apply modifier

  2. edit mode -> select all -> u -> project from camera
