post your yafray 0.0.8 expiriments here !!!

well, after just recieving the news in the News & Chat forum about yafray 0.0.8 i decided we should have a thread for putting some of the new features to the test ! so here you go !

new version can be downloaded HERE
and the complete feature list(or changelog) can be read HERE

all of you who know how to use yafray please do so now ;]

yes cool… I’ll test that now…

I agree with that. Since I just moved to a 64bit processer and did some tests with rendering speed, I may now want to use Yafray all the time. On 64b systems it is almsot twice as fast as the same speed 32b one. Plus I have always had problems not being able to do some of the nice texture effects I was learning in blender, in Yafray.

good deal. post your images whenever you feel like it ;]

WOW! Wait, How can I make this yafray use my 64 bit G5 proccessor?

well, i would look on yafray.org

but this isin’t about how to set up yafray…its about test renders…which i really am excited to see…i would really like to see how the new soft light feature is used…

First I have to figure out how to get it to install. The source code download will not install on Gentoo Linux, the readme file is blank 0k, etc.

Well, looks like I’m starting with the testing. Nothing special, I just wanted to look at the new dispertion feature:

Wow, that is impressive. I gotta try it out now that I have that working, but need to get another bug in Blender fixed 1st, damn 64b.

What is Yafray?

Yafray is an external Renderer. It supports caustics and realistic light bounces.

Is that the same as radiosity?

Yes, but it does things a little different than the built in Renderer. It is more like Mental Ray. Check out, www.yafray.org for more information on it.

wow lotw…thats pretty cool looking. i think the light dispersion feature will really push yafray up in the scale of things…

More dispersion on a simple beveled cube, really neat feature :o

that looks even more glassy than the previous yayfray renders. very solid.

the best thing, imho, is that the same parameters that you can use in blender now give very nice results ALSO rendering with yaf.
this is really really cool, thank you for the great work.

hey, to help some of the other people out…maybe i could get you guys to post your settings or include a .blend ?

Very nice, I have to play with Yafray now. I didn’t use it that much cause I hated that I lost a lot of the textures I made, of coarse there are still some that fail, but I guess I can live with those.

I would like to see better Integration in Blender though, since some things still don’t work right between the two. Area light have lots of problems. Turning photons on in the render options can cause problems with certain textures. Glad to see some things have been fixed with the migration between the two. With a little more work they could take on 3d Studio Max and win. They are real close to that already, at least in my opinion. I haev used 3d Studio Max for years, but I am converting my models over to Blender, so I will post some when I get them done, then I have to work on the scenes, just getting to know blender and their texturing stuff right now.

Hi,

I opened a file I rendered with 0.0.7 and rendered it with 0.0.8. . .well here is the result.
