Woot! Just saw POTC DMC and it was fantastic! If you want to see some of the best CG ever done to date, go see this movie. Wow!:):)
Oh yeah, the story line was pretty good too.
From a fan site:
The film earned a unprecedented $54.8 million from 4,133 theaters (that’s a single day per theater average of $13,271).
The film beat the one day record held by 2005’s Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, which made $50 million. Pirates exceeded that figure by almost 10$, with an estimated $55.5 million.
[SPOILER] The story setup for POTC 3 looks great! I can’t wait…
Saw it, the CG was wonderful but there was some terrible matte work towards the end. It was sorely lacking anything to make it stand on it’s own 2 feet plotwise. 3 looks like it might be superb but 2 was just filling the gap I feel.
My wife & I both felt like we sat through 2.5 hours of “half a movie”. I did like the film but just felt that anyone who was watching it as a standlaone movie would be dissapointed.
I think a lot of people feel dissapointed right now because of all the confusion and loose ends. I really enjoyed the movie (saw it at the midnight show) and the loose ends don’t bother me, but the slurring of some of the character’s lines kinda got to me.
I can see movies with loose ends if there’s sequals planned, like I heard the loose end of the first that was the compass is realized in this movie. It’s like how my brother told me you can’t fully understand the meaning of the Matrix unless you see all three movies.
We didn’t go opening weekend because it would be too crowded, we like to go at times when the theater’s not so busy.
the effects were incredible…the movie was incredibly boring for me. maybe it was because I was tired…but at the end… I WAS AFRAID that it would continu…
anyway, I don’t think I’ll go see the third one when it come out in theater
(1) It was a very hot and muggy afternoon, and I was all too happy to plunk down a ten-spot and get to sit in the cool air-conditioning for two hours and munch stale popcorn while listening to a $30,000 stereo system.
(2) “Okay, she’s a babe…” Both the males and the females in the audience had something to look at which was easy on the eyes…
(3) The plot was predictable and corny, and of course they’re going to do a cliff-hanger because of course there will be a third movie. (I’m sure they shot them both at the same time.) But if I’m eating stale corn, I really don’t mind watching some at the same time.
(4) The CG was decent.
(5) See (1). Hey, sometimes that’s just what it’s all about. “We are here now… entertain us.”
I thought it was worth watching, I liked what they did to Davy Jones’s men. The sword fight on the wheel was one of the more interesting fight scenes of the whole series. The Kraken was pretty well done.
Oh, and even on the second weekend it made over 60 million. The theater we watched it in was still pretty full even though the movie’s been out for a week (we went to the 4:00 show because the 3:20 one was actually SOLD OUT)
I liked it a lot less then the original. It had that “The 1st film did so well we have to make it into a big series and rake in the cash feel” to it. Not as funny IMO, a little confusing, but it was definitely fun to watch. I’ll probably go see again in theaters, and yes, I am really looking forward to the thid one:)
Everything was second rate except the special effects. The story was drawn out, the comedy was poor slapstick, the movie flip-flopped between adventure and cheesey comedy, Jack Sparrow’s character doesn’t need to have more dimension added to him, etc, etc…
Some people thought it was funny, and I agree there were some funny parts, but when the whole theater laughed as he had the fruit on his stick, I guess some people will laugh at anything.
Overall, it was slightly enjoyable, but nowhere near the first one, and I hope the 3rd can redeem it.

Return of the King earned over a billion dollars in the box office.
