Pouring cup

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone,
There you go, I’m new to Blender and I would like to make a pouring cup,

I started from an extruded circle, insight, I remove the top cap and I extrude downwards, with the knife I cut my “branches” but that doesn’t seem to be the best. Could you give me your opinions and advice for progress in this area?

It is simple in shape. It is not difficult to make, either.
But it is not easy to make well.

The biggest problem is that you can’t make the shape you want and the ratio is not right.
Learn basic modeling methods.

Surface Modeling

This modeling was made using Boolean and several modifiers.

  1. Shape the cylinder (set thickness with Solidify modifier)
  2. Create barrier. (Set thickness with Solidify modifier)
  3. Combine cylinder and barrier (boole modifier)
  4. Replicate half using Mirror modifiers.

I’m attaching only the file because it’s hard to explain in detail. (language problem) Please refer to it.

Maybe for pouring different paint onto some surface with equal amount (or other ratio) one should use the same “design” for every chamber… like so (|?) :

Adding some handle may also be helpfull :wink:

I simply thought of a “repeated” hollow triangle but used a modified rectangle (because the spicky angle might be problematic to 3D print (?) but also a lot of modification/editiong) and so (finaly) did one using inset and extrude and then did the repeatition via the array modifier with an empty as reference to get the rotation .

But this might be easier when starting with a circle (fill type triangle fan) with the wanted vertices → angle of the circle. here you can also use a the smallest wanted amount and delete some inner edges to get a wanted ratio or 1:2 or 1:3…

Then loops select the inner edges and supdivide, select them and scale to the middle to get the wanted width of the wanted outlet. Delete midpoint and unwanted triangles (or now quads); select alsl in face mode, inset ( I I inset individual) to the wanted thickness; invert selection ( Ctrl-I) and extrude (in the correct direction; properly up) to the wanted height.

I also think staying without subdivide which in this case serves no purpose I believe (or aesthetic)
So I continue my tests :slight_smile:
I started with illustrator to make my svg vector then I tried a few approaches
then I attach the different .blend files for your expert advice :wink: (here?)

and here are the renderings but I can’t find the right methodology, either I do with the complete shape then I duplicate the exterior shape (2 superimposed extrusions as a result) or I don’t do the background, looks cleaner but I don’t know how to add my bottom properly…

Here is the final modeling, I started from a circle with a proportional “sharp” deformation to draw a corner. Then I closed my “F” shape then an “I” insight for a small internal thread. I cut my 5 rooms, i.e. 3 separations, with the knife “K” tool and as I started without symmetry, I have rectangles of marks so that it’s not too gross either.
I extruded in Z of 0.05 “E” “Z” “0.05” and “ENTER” then I deselect the rooms which will remain at this level and I redo 7 extrusions of 0.5 of the walls only “E” “Z” “0.5” and “ENTER” then “SHIFT” + “R” 6 times to repeat the last operation.
