"Pre-comping" in Blender: making a Collection Instance after the fact?

In After Effects you can select a bunch of layers, and group them into a “pre-comp” which has all sorts of uses.

I’d like to do something similar in Blender, with just as much ease. I’ve built an elaborate (let’s say) object in a Scene, but now I’d like for it to be instanced from another scene, for ease in modifying.

In a simple situation, without a lot of targeting and/or other dependences, how would one go about this?
