Pre-great-computer-gloat thread

This is my official thread to gloat about the sweet computer I’m going to have finished constructing and configuring in ~2 weeks! Gloat, gloat, gloat. Yada yada yada. Now, on to the specs:

OS: Gentoo Linux (stage one compile)

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0 GHZ

Optical drive: NESI ND-1100A 4X DVD BURNER DVD+R/RW CDRW (argh! too many acronyms!)

Case: MGC 6082-C9 350W MID TOWER W/WINDOW/2USB/2FAN/SILVER

Video card: ATI RADEON 9800SE 128MB POWER

Motherboard: GA-K8NNXP AMD Socket-754 nForce3 150 (1600FSB/DDR400/SATA&ATA133RAID/AGP8X/6CH Audio/Dual Lan/1394/6USB2.0/DPS) ATX

RAM: 1GB 128Mx64 PC4200 Dual Channel 184Pin-DDR

Wheee! I’ll render an animation with lotsa photons, caustics, and other fun stuff in yafray as my first thing after it’s running!

/me anticipates

u got dual moniters? i cant live without those…

hmm, not a bad idea, won’t have the money for a bit…
/me goes to ebay

I got a windows XP (HAHAHAHA)

running on… deep breath

Pentium 4, 4 ghz, 1024 mb of ram, 200 gb HD with a 20 inch Plasma Screen. Gforce 4 with 128 mb, and got some big, badass speakers and wicked wireless mouse and key baord soI blend from bed!

i have a computer :stuck_out_tongue:

Firstly, some of that is kiiinda hard to belive. Assuming that it’s true, heres some crits for yours and addition stats for mine:
Crits for yours:
HAHAHAHAHA WINDOZE USER HAHAHAHHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHA 32 BIT UESR AHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHA GEFORCE USER AHAHAHAHAHAHA
You can’t blend from bed, the monitor is too far away! Get a boxlight!
Stats for mine:
Wireless Optical and Gyroscopic (use in midair) mouse
Standard keyboard (who needs a fancy keyboard???)
17 inch CRT (decent DPI dunno exactly)
3 channel speakers

Oh yeah? Well, do you have a computer that takes 4 tries to start up? And 8 days to shut down?

not quite 4gh actually, 3.8… I like to round… :stuck_out_tongue:

EDVerything else is true, and yes, hahaha, windows.

well my computer is about 1.5 years old and its still up to speed with all your guys ones so :stuck_out_tongue:

2.4 Ghz P4
1Gb ram
120Gb HDD
5.1 channel sound system
1900x1440 montior
wacom A5 tablet
3.2 megapixel digital camera
CD burner, DVD drive
128Mb GF4 vid card tv in/out

i am gonna get a new one in 2 years

Alltaken

Windows Ownz

Not many OS’s can even use 64 bit stuff… nor can like any programs, so it’s not really any faster…

Again, Geforce ownz. Look at the benchmarks, the 5950 totally owns the ATI radeon…

Pooba[/quote]

I have a geforce 256-bit core

63mil. vertices/sec
tv out/in
and it works w/ halo!

Pooba: Notice Prismatic said Gentoo Linux, Stage 1 compile. The entire operating system and all of the programs will be compiled, optimized for the 64 bit processor, on the actual system itself.

Dude forget about the Ati card tho, Nvidia Quadro Fx 2000 / 3000

Sonix.

I’m completely with p00ba.

Linux is nice but not convienent, especialy when I need to get work done. It seems to me that people badmouth XP WAAAAY more than they should. I would never actually BUY and microsoft product other than XP and even then, I customize the hell out of it. XP is stable, well supported, well recognized, and easy to use no matter how much you pretend you dont like the OS.

What the HELL is wrong with GForce cards?!?!?! All of the cards I have used (especialy NVidia) have had BALLS and have performed WAY better than expected. ATI is real nice too, but don’t pretend like GForce sucks.

and pooba pretty much covered the whole 64 bit thing.

how long have you been using linux (out of curiosity)?

FANBOY! YOU’RE A FANBOY!

GET EM! BURN IN HELL!

P150MMX IBM Thinkpad 380D laptop
32MB ram
2GB HDD
800x600 LCD screen at 16-bit (or 640x480 at 32-bit) ie 1MB VRAM
1 channel speaker (2 if you use headphones)
Win98 (tried to get linux but it’s too big, got cygwin though)
CDRom drive that works if you treat it nicely
have to use the keyboard before moving the mouse after booting otherwise it locks up
Can render several cubes in under a minute (ok, that’s an exagguration)
That’s all I can think of at the moment %|

Yes. Prismatic’s Gentoo Linux WILL use utilize all 64 bits of the processor (not 32).

That is part of the point of Gentoo Linux. Freedom and Optimization.

Cheers,

There’s a difference between running on a 64 bits processor and optimized for 64 bits processor. The later usually requires changes in the program itself.

theeth: cool. I actually shouldn’t shoot my mouth off about this because I’m no expert :P.

Agreed. I love Linux but I can’t really use it much yet as all my stuff is on my windows partition, it wont connect to the internet, and I can’t figure out how to upgrade the video card drivers for 3D. Also, I have a geForce card which I love very much.

My sister got an inflatable pillow that says nVidia from a friend who went to a trade show. If it was anything besides an inflatable pillow, I would want it.
