This is my official thread to gloat about the sweet computer I’m going to have finished constructing and configuring in ~2 weeks! Gloat, gloat, gloat. Yada yada yada. Now, on to the specs:
OS: Gentoo Linux (stage one compile)
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0 GHZ
Optical drive: NESI ND-1100A 4X DVD BURNER DVD+R/RW CDRW (argh! too many acronyms!)
Pentium 4, 4 ghz, 1024 mb of ram, 200 gb HD with a 20 inch Plasma Screen. Gforce 4 with 128 mb, and got some big, badass speakers and wicked wireless mouse and key baord soI blend from bed!
Firstly, some of that is kiiinda hard to belive. Assuming that it’s true, heres some crits for yours and addition stats for mine:

CD burner, DVD drive
128Mb GF4 vid card tv in/out
Pooba: Notice Prismatic said Gentoo Linux, Stage 1 compile. The entire operating system and all of the programs will be compiled, optimized for the 64 bit processor, on the actual system itself.
Linux is nice but not convienent, especialy when I need to get work done. It seems to me that people badmouth XP WAAAAY more than they should. I would never actually BUY and microsoft product other than XP and even then, I customize the hell out of it. XP is stable, well supported, well recognized, and easy to use no matter how much you pretend you dont like the OS.
What the HELL is wrong with GForce cards?!?!?! All of the cards I have used (especialy NVidia) have had BALLS and have performed WAY better than expected. ATI is real nice too, but don’t pretend like GForce sucks.
and pooba pretty much covered the whole 64 bit thing.
how long have you been using linux (out of curiosity)?

P150MMX IBM Thinkpad 380D laptop
32MB ram
2GB HDD
800x600 LCD screen at 16-bit (or 640x480 at 32-bit) ie 1MB VRAM
1 channel speaker (2 if you use headphones)
Win98 (tried to get linux but it’s too big, got cygwin though)
CDRom drive that works if you treat it nicely
have to use the keyboard before moving the mouse after booting otherwise it locks up
Can render several cubes in under a minute (ok, that’s an exagguration)
That’s all I can think of at the moment %|
There’s a difference between running on a 64 bits processor and optimized for 64 bits processor. The later usually requires changes in the program itself.
Agreed. I love Linux but I can’t really use it much yet as all my stuff is on my windows partition, it wont connect to the internet, and I can’t figure out how to upgrade the video card drivers for 3D. Also, I have a geForce card which I love very much.
My sister got an inflatable pillow that says nVidia from a friend who went to a trade show. If it was anything besides an inflatable pillow, I would want it.
