Basically, I’m modeling a cathedral. But something got me thinking. How do modeling professionals measure the size of something based on just pictures? For example, if I want to measure the size of this structure, but I don’t have the information about the size of the object and the blueprints don’t show scale, what do I do?
Also, is it okay to have a little inaccuracy in the models?
If you don’t have measurements then you can use a human reference in the case of the image above. You can see people standing right up against the wall. You know the average height of a person, so you can use that to extrapolate the other dimensions. You can even bring the ref into Blender and drop in a human model and match it to the person in the photo (a person right up against the building) Then use Blender’s measuring tools alongside the ortho side ref you have.
Measurements won’t be perfect, but they will be close, and can be helped by using refs that haven’t got too much perspective distortion.
Yes, I’ve seen it, lol, and I took that data as a reference. But I was thinking about a hypothetical situation. I saw a video of a guy who modeled an airplane and didn’t find any data, and I was curious about how he did it to be accurate. I’m sorry for not specifying that in the post.
I would use something from the image as a reference, for example a person, like the guy above said. That way I could measure it, is that what you’re asking?
This wa more about: to be some percent of is almost not recognizable so you do not have to be “precise”… also the marked solution uses the average height of a human…
…maybe you understand my point now?
There are rule measurement different every country. The door or window it’s enough to take reference to scale.
In my country ,the most height of the door 2.5m.
