Preset shelf?

I think it would be really cool, if there was a way to easily save, access, share, and collect presets for different facets of blender. This could be used for shading; save your node tree to use again on a different model. or if you wanted to share a node setup with the community. I could see this used for things like cloth FX, and all the other physics, compositing, smoke, fire, liquid sims and particle FX. I’m relatively new to blender, (about 2 years) so I’m sure there are other ways this could be useful.

Before I started using Blender I was a Lightwave user and this was something they had since at least version 7 in 2001. If you don’t understand what I’m talking about, here is a link:

This type of functionality is being worked on under a name “Asset Manager”. It is one of the bigger projects for 2020. More information in the blog post here:
