Pringa's genocide

Yep, those Pringa Blocks from the old image Who wrecked my Pringa blocks are back
Possibly one of the biggest bullet physics simulations ever attempted in 2.43 for a still, as physics recorded to IPO is what made this piece possible, according to my .blend file, the amount of users of the wood material is 12,000+ , and with that many objects, it becomes very impractical to add much more.

Only postpro was contrast adjustments, destructing effect made with an object scaling up fast during the simulation

And the bomb goes off to judge the residents of Pringa city.
For they have not made of anything good
So the judgement comes, their flimsy buildings crumble
And the effect is spactacular, as their civilization falls.

EDIT: did a recount and it’s more like 12,000 blocks, but still an impressive number.

i like this alot. nice colors. texture is a little repetitive, but i guess that’s the nature of an image with tons of same/similar objects.
i think it might look really nice with a slight motion blur and DOF effect.
it does look like some vortex tearing up a city to me.

Jenga!!

To make this more effective the building blocks/jenga pieces should go off the side of the picture on both sides, that will make the picture feel more inclusive.

Excelent! I want to read how you did it. But it’s true, DOF would improve it. And the best thing would be to give it a lot of motion blur (both true and node-vector based).

I used a rapidly expanding sphere for the explosion effect setting up the logic bricks to make it disappear at the end of its scale IPO.

About the bricks flying off both sides of the screen, I could make it so the explosion is more powerful but I wanted it so the city still looks like something as it’s falling apart, more worth to look at then a bunch of random flying blocks or a pile of debris with no recognizable buildings.

About the DOF and motion/vector blur, I could do that easily with this image as I know how it would be done, but it’s something I don’t typically use in my artwork.

Expanding sphere? Good idea. It might just be easier to delete the sphere after baking than setting up logic bricks (I don’t use the game engine, so I don’t know how easy/difficult this is)

I don’t really like depth of field that much, except in complete realism, which I don’t think you were going for this render. I think most people overuse it to the point where I get sick when I see it. Not to mention it would make adding so many objects in the scene pointless as 70 percent of them would blurred beyond recognition.

Vector blur, however, is something that is good for illustrating quick motion. It’d be a nice addition to your image and it’s very easy to implement.

By the way, how long did it take for the physics to bake?

Good choice ditching mudpuddle and switching to imageshack again

It’s on Mudpuddle too, the image thumbnail is linked from Mudpuddle, but it got compressed down to an extent so I put up a link to imageshack.

DOF can be really easy to overuse and I agree with that, the problem I see with DOF in this image is that detail won’t be as crisp. Vector blur for these types of images would be a better choice then DOF.

I didn’t delete the sphere, I kept the sphere, deleted its scale IPO, and made a particle system for it. I used negative starting speed and damping to get a greater concentration of particles in the center.

hmm…I really like the lighing, but the Blue explosion and background ruin it for me…

but Since I really respect this cool use of the GE, 4 stars from me!

Wow, if it keeps at 4 stars for the whole duration this topic is alive, it’ll be the best rating I ever got for an image here. If that’s so then all I have to do is find a way to make every new image better then this one.

gives CD a high five

ouch, down to 3 man…

It’s still higher then it was, it was at 3.0 when the rating first showed up, then it went to 3.5 and back down to 3.2-something.

Honestly I now know there’s some here that really think my images are pieces of crud and would do their best to bring it to 1 star. Doing that for this image is very unlikely now because I have 11 votes and they can only vote once and bring it down so far.

A few votes should get the 4 star rating back, though I can’t control how many stars they rate it with.

Really good! Nice work.

I think this is the best piece you’ve done yet. The idea is quite simple, but the execution is good. You’ve got great mood going on and the lighting works pretty well.

Keep this up and stop obsessing of how many stars people give you, you can’t control peoples likes or dislikes.

I don’t think it’s against you. Personally I gave this a low rating, because of the quality of work that sets the standard for 4 stars.

A few crits:
The picture lacks some motion because of the sharpness of the image despite the huge speeds some parts of blocks must be moving. Perhaps some motion blur, albeit at a small level, would create this illusion.
The bump on the blocks looks very stretched, and the blocks burn out to a solid colour on the highlights but compared to the colours in the image the burned colour is quite dull.
The blue light is good, but it doesn’t light the blocks as it would in reality.

There’s a lot you could do to improve this piece, and bring the rating up.

Ian

Wow! This one is really nice Cyborg. You could do a lot with this idea. A few aircraft zipping back and forth would make it a cool science fiction / movie piece. The action in this is amazing. It’s like I can hear it all crashing down!

Why not try just a little DOF to see what it looks like? Sounds to me like you’re one who won’t be overdoing it.

Perhaps, I didn’t expect someone to say this is my best piece yet because for one thing according to the replies here this seems to beat many other pieces I’ve spent the same amount of time on. If it’s widely agreed to be my best piece yet then what I need to do then is make sure every future work surpasses it.

*turns head sharply*

Hey!

I heard that…

Ha, don’t take it personally Free_Ality, you seem to be good with the defocus node, just try to not make so much blur in future pictures.
