anyone know if blender is capable of such?
caustics maybe?
does white light in blender behave as white light?
Yafray MIGHT be able to do that. I have seen some demos (usually in PovRay) where you can create prism effects where the light is broken up into it’s component colors. But that’s pretty advanced and it’s so much easier and CPU friendly to just fake it.
Blender can do that image, as a fake.
Not even YafRay can do color dispersion

i see.
thanks guys.
If you did want to fake it, what type of method is workable?
Either for a straight prism, or for something more mundane like a CD?
How would I get those prismatic colors that typically play across a CD when its held in the light? Is there a way to render seperate layers? and then combine the layers together later with the sequence editor maybe?

If I would do this, I would use a rainbow-striped texture mapped on a spotlight… %|

Yeah texturing a CD is a FAQ so… The answer is, just take a CD texture (or scan it !) and apply special coordinates (Win, Nor, Refl…in the MapInput tab).
