probably bevel broken?

hello,
I’m modelling some furniture and I’ve found a problem with bevel, both as modifier as modelling command.

I’m not sure about the past but if now you model something like in the picture below , you’ll get this result.

The object measures 1,2mt*0,6mt , height 2cm.
Try to make an “hole” and apply a bevel modifier with a 1,5mm of bevel and see the result.

Am I wrong or is there something it doesn’t work?
How do you solve this?

Thanks in advance

Blend file, dude. Blend file, dude. Blend file, dude. You can’t expect me to set this up myself with exact measures and stuff.

Hi,
i recreate this issue and the problem is that you have inverted normals. Choose polygons and press ctrl+N. The screenshot that you attached, you can see that the faces are black and that means that the faces are looking to the wrong direction. Also important is to remove dublicate verteces and apply the scale of your model.

Hope it helps

The order matters. First object mode, ctrl+A -> scale to apply object scale. Then edit mode, select all, W -> remove doubles. Then ctrl+N to make normals consistent and pointing out, which might not work if you have mesh errors that prevent it from working.

And yes, don’t crop screenshots and provide a .blend with questions. Tutorial linked in my signature tells more.

Have you used W, Bridge two selected opposite faces for the opening? This produces inverted normals. Could be a feature, could be not, Ctrl-N after.

thank you very much for your help and sorry for the missed blend file.

you routed me on the right way…it was the normals directions.
A “recalculate normal” solved the problem.
In fact I’ve used the Bridge command to make the hole.

Thank in advance.
