Hi there,
I’m a complete newbee with Blender (6 days) and I’m trying to get a handle on things by following the tutorial in the manual.
I’ve gone off on the wrong track a couple of times (due to being unfamiliar with the GUI) but i’ve managed to sort myself out. Now I’ve got used to it I was going along swimingly until I came to adding ‘bones’.
Placing the armatures is no problem but when I come to name them the armature list only contains the first five armatures and no matter what I try I cannot get the sixth one to list.
I’ve rebuilt the model three times in case I’d done something wrong in previous builds.
I,ve just rebuilt it a fourth time but I get the same result every time. If there is anyone out there who can point me towards a solution I’d be most grateful.
Thanks
Presumably you’ve selected all bones and are using the Armature Bones panel to rename them. That panel can only display five bones at a time. Just select one bone at a time and use that panel or press N to display the “floating” transform panel where you can type in the name in the Bone: field.
Also, I’m not sure which tutorial you’re doing, but the “Intro to Character Animation” tutorial on the wiki (link in my signature) is the latest and best one that covers modelling, rigging (Armatures) and animation.
You should be using at least version 2.42a, and you might want to take a look at 2.43rc2
http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.43rc/, especially for the new character walking features (as you mentioned you’re working with Armatures)
(This thread refers to “CVS” builds, but 2.43RC2 has the same features).

Thanks for that Mike_S.
I’ll give it a try. There is obviously some misinformation in the tutorial that I am following as
it says that the armature list expands to accomodate the number inserted and actually shows
a list with 7 armatures, that’s why I’ve been wasting my time. I’ll also download the version that you have recommended and give it a try.
All the best,
