Problem trying to bake Texture Nodes using Blender Render

Hello everyone, I have been practicing a basic way of making seamless objects (unwrap the object 2 different ways, then blend across the seam of 1 of the layers) using Texture Nodes in Blender Render. That is working fine, but the problem comes when trying to bake the finished texture to an image. Using Bake Texture, blender only seems to bake the original image (so the output is just the base material with no blending applied). Using Full Render produces a strange result I have never seen before (attached for reference, and I have no shading or specularity on the object). Any ideas how to do this or what is going wrong?
