I’m trying to animate a car being crushed. The car itself is linked into a scene, and then I’m using a proxy rig for animating the car (i.e. making the wheels far out).
Next, I want the car mesh to be crushed. I decided to use shape keys for modifying the mesh. However, I can’t go into edit mode becuase of it being a linked object. Becuase of this, I decided to make the mesh a proxy aswell, but that causes problems with the proxy rig.
Is there another approach to animating the car mesh being crushed? Any help or suggestions will be greatfully accepted.
try doing it with the ‘mesh deform’ modifier. basically you construct a mesh around the car, then give the car a ‘mesh deform’ modifier, and the ‘cage’ mesh will now deform the car mesh. If it’s a complicated mesh ( either the cage or the mesh being deformed or both ) it may take a little while to bind them together.
Thank you for the reply. For some reason, I was never able to animate the crushing effect becuase of it being a linked object. In the end, I just used bones lol
As I find things for Blender I put the links here too … I will look and see if I can find any more out
and post it on this link … My Bookmarks for Blender Stuff
Hope some of the things here are of use … will add to it … later on …
I have seen some more work done on this but will have to search for the links I found …
