Problem with big textures

My Blender 2.28 don’t work stable when I use big textures (2048x1024). My configuration :Duron1,1, Radeon 9100, W2000prof. Blender 2.25 work very stable. I tried to change graphics card properties, but it didn’t help. What can I do?

Try version 2.28a, it has a lot of bugs fixed.

I think the textures may be scaled to square if they aren’t already (well, glu does this for opengl, does blender for it’s mippmapping?), but you should probably do it yourself
