problem with Blender to fbx to Maya

I have a problem between Blender, Maya and fbx.

I followed a tutorial on breaking wall on youtube:

I created a broken wall in blender and export it to fbx
It looks perfectly in Blender but in Maya it shows creases/edges which are undesireable

Does anybody know how to get around this issue?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Raymond

Problem solved:
Just follow the video tutorial. However before breaking the wall into pieces, go to edit mode, select faces hidden in the wall (faces where the broken pieces face one another). Add Modifier>Edge Split. (Note:if you do this after you separate the wall into pieces, you’ll have to apply it for each separate piece). I changed nothing to the parameters in Edge Split modifier.
Then press A to deselect, A again to select all, press P to separate, choose By loose parts.
When export to fbx, make sure Apply Modifer is checked.
That’s all.
Thanks Michael W again for the suggestion

This isn’t the support forum… they’re further down the main page!

The Maya version is showing artefacts from having everything smooth.

I beleive there have been some new options for smoothing added recently to the fbx exporter.
Check in the export dialog when you save the fbx what smoothing options are available… experiment!

A sure fire way that I used to do in 2.49 was to use an “edge split” modifier and export with modifiers applied.

In maya I’d select all the open edges, mark as hard then merge vertices.

Thanks for your reply Micheal.

Well, I had been confused as to where to post this kind of question.

I’ll give it a try.

There are 3 smoothing options in fbx export in blender: Face, Edge and Off
I tried all of them and was not successful.
What does “edge split” modifier help in this context and how to achieve with it?

I created my breaking wall using explosion modifier so I could break the whole wall into smaller pieces.
I made a simulation where a ball hit the wall so the wall is broken into pieces. I then recorded the animation and exported it into fbx and import that fbx into maya.
