problem with duplicate objects! plz help

hi all i’m a bit new to blender and i’m trying to model my fav car BMW M5.
i created the doors on one side and duplicated them to the other side, i did that for headlights too.
the thing is, when i press “P” to start game i can’t see the original doors!!
i can see the side i duplicated but the original side the one i duplicated from is completely invisible… same goes for headlights and wierdly enough the back window as well.

any help will be very much appreciated. :yes::yes:

are the doors and light visible when you quit the game engine?

Yes, you may need to flip the normals. A screenshot would be helpful; you can show the normals by pressing Face under the Mesh Display section of the properties window (N-key) of the 3D View while in Edit-mode (for Blender 2.54).

If flipping doesn´t work, try pressing Crl + N.

it Is the same thing. it inverses the normals

Crl + N recalculates the normals and sometimes it works wrong.

So for Blender 2.49 go into the edit mode (F9) and press tab. Under “Mesh Tools More” aktivate the button Draw Normals. Then the normals direction schould be shown. The blue line must point outside. Select the wrong faces and press in the “Mesh Tools” the button Flip Normals.

For Blender 2.54 switch from the Default screen to UV Editing. Click on the right window press N key. Under Mesh Display serach for Normals: enalble Face. Then the normals direction schould be shown. The blue line must point outside. Select the wrong faces in the middle of the screen press the button Fip Direction.

thx everyone, especially you HG1 i followed your advice and it worked for me. i’m using blender 2.49 btw.
i still don’t know why the faces were flipped in the 1st place but i’m just happy to have gotten them flipped back around so my car would have doors on either side :stuck_out_tongue:

normally, an object only shows textures in one direction, so if you move it along an axis to the opposite side of the car, itwont show textures as the normals are facing inwards on that door
