I want to creat the hull of a boat, by making various cross sections using Nurb curves. I made all the templates and arranged them in position, joined then all together. Then I went to edit mode, selected all vertices and pressed F. It created surfaces, but they were deformed on one side and didnt match the original cross sections
The cross sections looked good and were pretty much symmetrical , but the mesh that was created didnt match these templates.
Well I just tried it with some simpler shapes (normal ovals) and it worked fine. So why won’t it work with more complex shapes (not terribly complicated though :<)
OK, for the first part, in the Edit window, (F9), press the Endpoint U button. THis will extend the curve to the end of the verts. You can then play with the resolution of this by increasing the value of the Resol U and the V value that is to the right of that one.
To convert to mesh, just press ALT+C. Make sure you are out of Edit mode to do this by pressing the TAB button. Should turn to purple colour and verts will dissapear.
Can you post some pics? I’m working on a viking ship at the moment, although only the silhouette will show up in the render I’m planning. For some reason, boats are difficult for me to make.
Yes, could you post some pics/wireframe. Working on a ship too, but decided to use subsurfs instead. It was/is very tedious. Always wondered if a better result could be obtained if nurbs used instead.
Hmm, I could post some pics but I don’t have any webspace I’ll try finding some hosting tonight. My vessel is being made up as I go along, its going to be a sort of futuristic sailing ship I think.
Hmm, well I started again, wasn’t happy with the first one. Now its looking very nice, its like a yacht now, smaller scale and a little easier to work with. I was also a little ambitious to begin with, I tried to create the entire hull out of one model in one go, keel and all. This didnt work very well though, the keel got distorted when I converted from Nurbs>Mesh so I have redone it seperately and it looks much better
