Problem with Hair

Ok I completed my head model and am trying to put some hair on my bald scalp. I select a group of vertices ( on top of the head) and form a vertex group called scalp, then go into object mode and create a new particle (hair) and assign it to the scalp vertex group. problem is that all the hair is inside the mesh or sculpt coming from the inside faces. I modeled the head from a plane. anyone know how I can get the hair from inside the head to the outside?

Flip the normals of those faces. Select the face and use the button in the toolshelf or shortcut W / Flip Normals.
For best operation it is first best to recalculate all the face normals (Ctrl+N) then flip any problem faces
