I’ve been searching the net and this forum for a solution. I found some interesting threads and tried a few things, but could not get the wanted result. Here is the poblem:
I made a sceen where three lamps light up the room. In the lamps I put spotlights to get the desired light for the scene. Then I put round planes with halo turned on in the lamps the make it look like the lightsource. The floor of the room has ray mirror turned on to get a reflection. For another purpose the sceen has a couple lamps, which only reflect to the floor and excist only for detail, not lighting the scene.
Why do the lamps reflect on the floor but the spotlights don’t?
So browsing this forum I read that halos cannot reflect on the surface. So I tried radiosity which I found in another thread. I changed the halos into normal materials, collected the meshes, tried the ‘solid’ and ‘gour’ options (couldn’t see any difference after the actual process ) and pressed go. So I got the same effect as with the halos in the roof. But the reflection on the floor looks like a depthless solid stain with hard edges. Not nearly as nice as the lamps reflecting.
What should I do? I read about nodes. And did a while back a simple tutorial on how to blur the final render, but if I understood correctly that’s not the kind to be used here. I’ve been learning blender now for a couple months and nodes seem a little too advanced. Are there any other options? Oh well, I could go with nodes if that’s the only way, but maybe I missed something else.
see pic are your trying something like in the pic?
are you inside a closed box
thw world can also emit some light in your scene!
now another thing is that lamp radiate all around 360 degress so you want see any spot
except some diffuse refelction if a wall is close to it but that’s it
lamp don’t have a sharp round ligth on the floor like a spot!
see last pic it show a lamp and a spot
the spot show on the floor but not the lamp!
i mean does show as a blurred spot on the floor but very little
pic for emit source there are some reflection from emit source too
see last pic but nor certain about it - depends on location fo camera too!
and can you show a pic of what you have of the scene
Hmm, I don’t fully understand what you mean. But I can grasp it somewhat.
To answer you questions, no, the scene is not inside a solid box. Should it be? Here is a picture:
As you can see, on the left side there is a reflection, but on the right only two lamps with no light reflecting. Maybe spots are not supposed to reflect if the intensity is not high enough. Maybe it can be faked somehow. Or then change the surface of the floor not to reflect objects that far away. Is that possible?
wow, fast reply
Yes the lamps have one spot in each. They are beneath the halos which produce the glow. And yes I want them to reflect on the floor. I don’t have access to the computer with blender until sunday. But I’ll put the .blend here and you can give it a go. Will be reading this forum though. Thanks for you help
To explain more about what Ricky is saying. Lights themselves do not reflect into mirrored surfaces. They do effect the Speculatity of a surface, but this is not a true reflection. You will need an object that sits at the same location as the light to reflect, which you appear to have. The final thing is that Halos do not reflect in ray mirror surfaces, so if you are using a halo material for object, change to using a material with Emit turned up instead of halo.
Ok now I got it. I have to try that. Did post the .blend also, but it need to be accepted probably because I had to upload the file onto a free filesharing service.
Thanks for the help Rickyblender and DichotomyMatt. I made round plane, uvmapped, applied texture and turned up emit. Got almost what I wanted. Good enough for now.
