"Ray-traced mirror or transparency inside of Material Nodes is not well handled yet. This because the use of node trees makes it impossible to retrieve a singular Material property (like, does this point on a face reflect or not?). "
I will let my question stay here, maybe it helps someone else not to waste his time into the Nodes with Mirror…
Hello,
I have a problem with nodes and ray mirror (see attached image).
A Texture controls in the Node editor the mixing of two materials.
Blue: Ray Mirror Material
Brown: Normal Material
Where the blue material is on top, reflection takes place,
thats fine, see cube and sphere in the background
Grey Sphere in the front is ok (I switched of shadow)
PROBLEM:
The brown sphere and the cube (both also ray mirror)
get reflected somehow!?
I tried hours :spin: now with no idea if it is my incompetence or a bug or whatever?
You didn’t say which version of Blender you were using, so I tried it with 2.43rc3 … but still got the same result as you did
On another subject, I haven’t done anything with material nodes so I don’t know if it’s possible, but looking at your scene, I was wondering if the blue shading could be animated, so that it appeared to be a a cloud /smoke like texture ? I see there are “Vector” parameters on the texture node, I experimented a bit with them, but didn’t really get an anmated result.
The blue shade is just a texture I painted in Blender with texture paint for this experiment. So that means you can use any Texture type Blender supports to control where the blue color is on top. You can even use AVIs. I guess also a cloud texture. Hmm Maybe you need to use a material then to animate the Offset of the texture to make it move. Not 100% sure.
Oh gosh, I can’t believe this! I too spent a lot of time trying to figure out why this was not working properly, and I blamed my inability to use node materials…
Anyway, I managed to get something acceptable somehow… I don’t have the file right here, I’ll post any useful infos later if I find something out.
