Problem with seam island selection (UV editing)

I UV unwrapped a model, and so i got in my UVediting window, and see the mesh layed out over my image.
Now there are several mesh islands as a result of the seams i made.
Now i want to select those islands to move them to the correct location.
In my image view i select a square then press CTRL and + to expand my selection.
Now for some reason then the CTRL and + doesnt stop at the border of this island, which it always did in the past.
I must have disabled something, but what ?

select a node and press ctrl L ( select linked )
(edit) almost forgot…also there is island select mode on the UV header.

Ensure you are not using shared vertex sticky selection
